(Bill Musser)

Ingebrikt Halsteinson Grindeland was born 16 May 1831 in Vossestrand, Norway and baptized 11 Jun 1831. He emigrated to America in 1850, probably with his father Halstein and his two brothers Ola and Arne. His widowed sister Sesilia and her two children Knut and Kari came the following year. Sesilia died during the cholera epidemic shortly after her arrival in Illinois, leaving the two children to be raised by her father and brothers. The family lived in Jefferson Prairie, a Norwegian settlement on the border between Illinois and Wisconsin.
